Honmachi is a tuna restaurant near Yeongdong Market in Nonhyeon, Gangnam, Seoul. The ₩55,000-per-person Honmachi set is top-grade tuna from the first piece to the last, and because the owner runs the room alone, every table gets the same pair of hands. Visited unannounced and paid in full in September 2026 by an editor who runs four restaurants in Seoul.

Where
Near Yeongdong Market in Nonhyeon, Gangnam-gu, Seoul — walkable from Nonhyeon Station, in a neighbourhood built around team dinners and late evening meals. Visited in September 2026.

What we ordered
The Honmachi set. Tuna arrives cut by cut in the compartments of a wooden box; partway through, a single row of nigiri comes on a wooden board, with a warm dish such as mapo tofu alongside.

What it cost
₩55,000 per person for the set (September 2026; prices can change).

What a restaurant owner notices
The tuna was top grade. A tuna bar is won or lost on buying, thawing and ageing — and when the line between lean and belly stays sharp and the colour holds to the last piece, that work is being done every single day. With one person running the room, the judgement comes from one pair of hands, to one standard, every time.

Tip for first-timers
Because the owner works alone, he looks after each table himself. The set comes in courses, so take it as it arrives rather than rushing. Tell him your group size and budget when you sit down, and he will shape the set around it.
The moment I remember
Tuna laid out cut by cut in a wooden box, a single row of nigiri on the board, and one man quietly preparing the next plate.
