Banpo Galbi is a charcoal beef-rib house in the basement of Banpo Shopping Town at Express Bus Terminal Station, Seoul. Galbisal and top blade grilled at the table, finished with a beef doenjang stew, came to ₩49,800 for the whole order. Every floor staff member greets you as you walk in, and foreign diners fill a good share of the tables. Visited unannounced on 21 September 2026 by an editor who runs four restaurants in Seoul.

Where
Banpo Shopping Town building 4, basement level 1, at Express Bus Terminal Station (Lines 3, 7 and 9), Seoul. With three lines meeting here, it fits a first meal on the day you land in Seoul or a last one before you leave for another city. Visited on 21 September 2026.

What we ordered
Galbisal (beef short-rib meat), bucheatsal (top blade) and a beef doenjang stew. The raw beef comes out on a steel tray and you grill it yourself over charcoal; the stew, eaten with rice at the end, turns the grill into a full meal.

What it cost
₩49,800 for all three. For charcoal-grilled beef in this part of Seoul, it is the kind of bill you read twice.

What a restaurant owner notices
The moment you step in, every person on the floor looks up and greets you at once. To someone who runs restaurants, that is not a script — it means somebody is watching the whole room, all the time. A place that watches the room watches the fire and the meat too. Both the beef and the stew were faultless.
Tip for first-timers
Foreign diners are common here, so nobody feels out of place. Point to 갈비살 (galbisal) and 부채살 (bucheatsal) on the menu and you have ordered; ask for the doenjang stew near the end of the meat so it arrives with your rice. If your route passes Express Bus Terminal, it is worth planning around.
The moment I remember
A wave of greetings at the door, galbisal turning colour over the coals, and one number on the bill that made us look again.
